to Holistic Health

I call yoga the gateway to holistic health and mindful living because as you start to cultivate your practice you begin to understand that yoga is much more than a sequence of physical movements. The tenets of yoga are not only used on the mat but as you start to practice regularly you begin to translate these tenets into your everyday life.

A consistent yoga practice can simulate your heart and mind into wanting to live an overall healthier lifestyle. This mindfulness may come in the forms of being more aware of what types of nourishment you are providing for your body including the foods you eat, the music you listen to, the way you speak to yourself and others, and the practices and coping mechanisms you use to deal with the difficult situations.

Yoga is a beautiful practice that can be used to release the stressors and anxiety that most of us deal with on a daily basis. This practice is also an invaluable tool that we can use to release deep rooted emotions such as pain and anger that we have unconsciously held onto from the many traumas we may suffer throughout our lives.

Yoga is also an effective way to deal with the often difficult task of working through and processing grief dealing with the physical or figurative loss of the people and/or things that we love. Over-all yoga is a powerful practice that has an inherently calming effect on the mind, body and the spirit.

Why start a yoga practice?

Physical Wellness

A consistent yoga practice has the ability to improve overall physical wellness through increased flexibility and muscle strength. Moreover yoga has the ability to improve breathing, circulation and overall cardiovascular health. One aspect that is unique to the practice of yoga that many may not be aware of is its ability to have a profound effect on healing previous injuries that one may think can only be treated through symptom management.

Yoga can encompass a wide variety of styles that can be tailor made to serve whatever it is you desire to get out of your physical wellbeing. Whether you’re seeking a more vigorous and athletic practice or a more restorative practice for healing yoga has it all.

Last but certainly not least.

Yoga is a fun activity that can really be done anywhere you can safely lay down your mat. While yoga can be a very introspective and personal practice it is equally as fun to get a small group of friends together from a warm 60 min reggae and flow or heat building dancehall vinyasa flow.
